The tournament joins the American and Aussie Opens in implementing video review systems.
Video review systems are set to arrive at Wimbledon for the 2025 edition.
Competitors will gain the option to contest particular decisions from the official, echoing the protocol currently in use at each of the US Open and the Australian Open.
This technology will be accessible on Centre Court and the number one court throughout the Championships and on the remaining show courts when they are hosting singles matches.
This step arrives only a season following the All England Club introduced electronic line calling, which effectively ended the centuries-old tradition of line officials.
What Can Be Reviewed?
Competitors will not be permitted to dispute the call of the ELC system, but are allowed to ask for the official to re-examine other situations, such as:
- If a ball has double-bounced.
- Whether a ball touched an opponent's racquet or person on the way past.
- Possible interference at the conclusion of a rally.
Notably, there will be no cap on the amount of reviews a player can request.
Case in Point
A recent case occurred in a recent tournament recently, where Daniil Medvedev initiated the review system against his opponent.
Draper admitted it was a difficult call for the umpire, but believed his opponent had "used the regulations quite well."
The umpire viewed a replay and ruled the player was guilty of interference, granting the point to his opponent.
Wider Implementation
This technology are not new for major tournaments. The system was adopted at the American major since 2023 and the Aussie Open since 2025.
Additionally, it is becoming more common on the women’s WTA Tour, and by the coming year the men's ATP Tour will have the system in place at every one of its tournaments.
Further Updates
Another innovation at The Championships 2025 will be the addition of visual indicators on scoreboards to complement the audio calls from the ELC system.
This addresses situations where fans have occasionally been unsure if a shot was out or in.
In other news, with exactly a century of days remaining until the beginning of the tournament, organizers have also announced an increase in daily capacity at the qualifiers in Roehampton.
