An extensive two-month voyage circling the Land Down Under is being halted following the death of an older female passenger who was left behind by the vessel on a remote island.

The elderly woman had been hiking on the remote island with fellow passengers from the vessel, but broke off from the excursion for a break. The vessel left without her and came back later that day after the crew discovered the lady was unaccounted for.

A major hunt located her person the subsequent day.

Investigative bodies are investigating the tragedy, together with investigators and the state coroner.

Head of the voyage organizer announced that passengers and staff on the ship were notified that the remainder of the cruise had been terminated due to the "tragic passing and prior mechanical issues".

In a statement, he further stated that passengers would be issued a full refund, and said the company was working "to organize the travel back of the travelers via private aircraft".

Regulatory bodies also issued an latest statement, and said they had "delivered a notice to the Commander" prohibiting any new passengers from entering the liner.

The representative said that they would attend the vessel in Cairns upon its coming back.

The liner initially left Cairns on October 24th, and was only 48 hours into the voyage at the point of the elderly woman's demise. The remote island was the opening port on the voyage.

Relatives Statement

The offspring of the elderly passenger said that her loved ones was "shocked and saddened that the vessel left the location after an scheduled excursion without my parent".

In her statement, she characterized her mum as an "vigorous elderly person" who was a participant of a hiking club.

"According to scant facts we have been informed, it seems that there was a failure of responsibility and basic judgment," she said.

She further stated that she desired the examination would be able to determine what "the organization should have done that might have protected Mother's existence".

"We understand from the police that it was a exceptionally warm day, and mother fell ill on the hill climb," she revealed.

"They requested her to go back, unescorted. Then the ship departed, reportedly without conducting a roll call.

"During some point in that sequence, or shortly after, she died, by herself."

Company Response

Through an announcement, the Chief Executive confirmed that the operator was "cooperating fully with authorities to aid their examination".

He said that the company was "extremely apologetic that this has transpired" and had provided its full support to the family.

Cruise Industry Practices

The ship accommodates up to one hundred twenty guests with forty-six staff, according to corporate details. It was purpose-built to reach remote regions of the nation's shoreline and is outfitted with "auxiliary vessels" - small boats used to ferry passengers on land visits.

Events such as this are rare, and cruise ships have protocols to document which individuals are getting on or leaving, according to travel authorities.

"Going ashore secretly or [back] on the ship really isn't an option," an authority stated.

Vessel operators consider these processes very seriously and have "sophisticated systems in place to avoid such occurrences from happening," the specialist added.
