Exactly 30 years since the first Toy Story film debuted, launching the animation giant as a leading animation studio and introducing audiences to iconic characters like Woody (Tom Hanks) and Buzz Lightyear (the voice talent), who are now famous worldwide.

In 2026, the fifth installment is scheduled for release. The initial preview for Toy Story 5 landed recently, offering a glimpse into the plot but keeping fans curious how it will resolve the ending of Toy Story 4.

The Latest Addition: A Frog-Shaped Tablet Spooks the Toys

The preview shows the young girl — who inherited Andy's toys when he grew up — receiving a latest plaything, one that alarms the familiar toy group. She acquires her first tablet computer, and she is thrilled about it.

Presumably, the amphibian-inspired device will animate just like Bonnie's other toys. However, the characters seem to view it as a danger coming to replace them, which it probably is.

The Cowboy's Comeback: Unanswered Questions from Toy Story 4

An element the teaser doesn't touch on is why the sheriff is returned with his friends in Bonnie's room. The finale of Toy Story 4 depicted him set off on a new adventure with the shepherdess (the actress), traveling with a carnival and helping giveaway items find good homes.

Surely, the filmmakers will address the consequences of Toy Story 4 in the film. Witnessing him appear in Bonnie's room without warning is somewhat puzzling, however. It also raises questions whether his partner will have come back with Woody. And where is the stuntman toy (Keanu Reeves)?

Continuity from the Previous Film

Fortunately, some aspects are continuing from the earlier movie. The last thing Woody did before departing for his new life was hand over his sheriff badge to Jessie (Joan Cusack), entrusting her in charge of the toy domain. In the teaser shows the insignia attached to her outfit.

Hopefully she is still the driving force among the toys.
